Another giant leap for cable television as the SES AMERICOM satellite, AMC-10, blasts off 50 minutes late at 6:46 p.m. aboard an Atlas 2AS rocket on 5 February 2004 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. From the press release this is “One of two C-band satellites that are home to SES AMERICOM’s premier cable neighborhood, for digital transmission across the United States.” Suffice to say, without this commercial satellite the range of television channel options would be extremely limited.
