Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket launches EchoStar XIX into a very hazy sky at 2:13 p.m. on 18 December 2016 from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. EchoStar XIX will be the world’s highest capacity broadband satellite in orbit, dramatically increasing capacity for HughesNet high-speed satellite Internet service to homes and businesses in North America.
The launch was greatly obscured by the ground hugging haze.
The three solid rocket motors are jettisoned.
The three solid rocket motors fall away to crash into the Atlantic Ocean.
Thirty stacked images create a faux time-exposure of the launch through solid rocket motor jettison showing the movement of the clouds, the movement of the exhaust cloud, and the trajectory of the Atlas V in its climb to orbit.
