An Atlas V rocket lifts a commercial communications satellite into orbit at 4:12 p.m. on 14 April 2008 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The satellite (ICO G1) owned by ICO Global Communications will offer live television, navigation, and emergency services for vehicles starting in 2009 across the United States. The images show, at left, a chance alignment captures a Wood Stork gliding by as the rocket lifts off, in the center image the rocket has rolled to its proper trajectory, then, upper right, the rocket climbs away, and, below, a Roseate Spoonbill flies from all the excitement.
