| A day out exploring the beautiful lands around rural Kenansville led first through the "Community of Destiny," or as one wag put it, "Density." Anyone familiar with Yeehaw Junction, a community noted for having one four-way stop and a lot of cattle, is going to be confused to see these signs in the area. Alas, the Florida Legislature has decreed a town be built here to feed the half-baked Ponzi scheme of development otherwise known as the Florida economy---the sign reads equally well as a place name or as a command. One local wanted to know who in their right mind was going to move to the middle of nowhere or, for that matter, locate a business there. Construction has yet to bring the town to fruition but, in the image below, one wonders if this old abandoned gas station is a premonition of things to come. | ![]() |

| Away from the hustle and bustle of Yeehaw Junction and its four-way stop, stretching in all directions are verdant cow pastures, woods of all descriptions, and chains of lakes, some quite large. In the image above, the dark spot down the road in the distance is a mirage shimmering in the Florida heat. | |

ABOVE: In a few years this bucolic scene might be replaced by a cookie cutter strip mall with ample parking. Welcome to Florida! LEFT AND BELOW: Cows cool off in the shade of a hammock or by taking a dip in a pasture pond. |

Taking the time to observe cows as individuals makes apparent the personality traits befitting their intelligent, inquisitive natures along with the rich emotional lives they lead as part of the herd. |

ABOVE LEFT & RIGHT: Wood Storks in the cow pasture. LEFT: A surprise was to see a lone Roseate Spoonbill land amongst the cows. Note the fantastically shaped bill that is half the bird's name. Go to page two of three > > > |
